Anxiety Panic Disorders Have No Age Boundaries

To understand anxiety panic disorders, you have to first realize that anxiety is a symptom, not a cause. The cause is usually an out of control mental imagination that just can't stop bringing up fearful images. If untreated, eventually the anxiety may become so severe that panic sets in and the the sufferer begins to experience real physical symptoms.

Anxiety panic disorders are usually general in nature. You may feel a sense of dread, or panic, but be unable to explain the source of it. Common signs that you may have an anxiety panic disorder are sustained muscle tension, a sense of restlessness and jumpiness, a feeling of dread, sweating, and so on. Probably around 3 to 5% of people are affected by some sort of anxiety disorder. In fact, many people have maybe a mild form of it and don't even realize it. Most of us know someone who is always afraid that they're "coming down with something", that they may be catching a disease. In other words, they're a hypochondriac. Many experts see this as simply a specialized form of anxiety disorder.

Anxiety panic disorders have no age boundaries. They can occur in infants, children, teenagers, and grownups. These disorders are, of course, hard on everyone. Teenagers, however, especially have it tough. Most teenagers are trying to be independent of their parents. And yet, simultaneously, they have a desperate desire to fit in with their peer group of fellow teens. They, therefore, have a reluctance to admit that they even have anxieties and might need help.

How Can You Eliminate Anxiety and Panic Disorders?

Probably the most effective way to get over anxiety panic disorders is to confront your fears in a controlled environment. If you never confront them, your fears will always be somewhere in the back of your mind. The key, however, is confronting them in an atmosphere where you feel safe. In fact, unless the environment is controlled, the fear may even escalate. For example, if you are afraid of drowning, it's much better to confront and try to overcome this fear in a swimming class than by jumping off the deep end of a pier.

Before you can confront your fears, however, you must first learn what your real fears are. Many times the things that we apparent fear are nothing more than masks themselves. For instance, many people ostensibly have a fear of public speaking. But what is their real fear. Are they afraid of being judged for their poor grammar? Are they afraid of being embarrassed? Are they simply afraid of crowds - of being closed in. In other words, many people apparently have the same fears, but the cause - and therefore treatments - of these fears can be vastly different.

After diagnosis, normally, anxiety panic disorders are initially treated by therapy. From there, the therapist will then determine the best treatment going forward. The most important factor for anyone having trouble coping with the panic anxiety disorder in their life is to realize that they are not alone. They simply need to look for and get the help that they need.
